Visit to the Isle of Man

Recently, our team had the opportunity to visit Manx Care on the Isle of Man, not only to provide our usual support but also to connect more deeply with their team and learn how we can help improve their clinical coding practices.

This visit was a perfect blend of collaboration, engagement, and a bit of downtime to explore the local area.

Collaboration and Education: Enhancing Coding Awareness

One of the key elements of the visit was a presentation led by Rebecca, our clinical coding trainer. Her session aimed to raise awareness about the crucial role that clinical coding plays in healthcare. By engaging with a wide range of staff, Becky was able to emphasise the importance of accurate documentation and how everyone—clinical and administrative staff alike—plays a part in ensuring the best possible coding results.

The session sparked great interest, particularly with the medical professionals, who were eager to learn how improved communication can enhance the quality of clinical coding. We have found that when healthcare teams gain a clearer understanding of the coding process, it fosters better collaboration and results for the entire organisation.

Our clinical coding auditor, Alan, played a pivotal role during the visit by reviewing the live systems used at Manx Care. With his expertise, Alan was able to assess the current setup and provide valuable advice on how to optimise the systems for better efficiency. He worked closely with the ward clerks, offering practical tips and guidance to help them better support the coding process.

By providing this direct support, Alan helped to identify areas where small improvements could have a significant impact on the overall quality of coding. His approach was collaborative, ensuring that the clerks had the knowledge they needed to assist the coders more effectively. This focus on teamwork and ongoing support strengthens the overall coding process, ensuring that the right data is captured and recorded.

Continued Collaboration and Support

Another key part of the visit was a thorough discussion of current operations led by Sophie, our clinical coding team leader, who met with the onsite team to review and assess operations. Sophie took the opportunity to discuss how the clinical coding process is currently being managed and where improvements could be made to enhance both efficiency and quality.

These operational discussions are essential for aligning our services with the specific needs of the hospital, ensuring that we are providing the best possible support. Sophie’s ability to foster these conversations reflects our commitment to offering personalised, high-quality service tailored to each client’s needs.

Exploring the Isle of Man: Building Stronger Relationships

While the visit was focused on supporting Manx Care with their clinical coding needs, we also took the opportunity to explore the stunning Isle of Man. After our work sessions, the team visited Port Erin, where we enjoyed some kayaking and time by the sea. These moments of relaxation not only allowed us to recharge but also helped build a stronger, more personal connection with the Manx Care team. Strong relationships are built on both professional collaboration and personal connection, and we believe that spending time together outside of work helps foster trust and mutual respect.

Looking Ahead

Our visit to Manx Care was an excellent opportunity to share knowledge and improve the quality of clinical coding. By working closely with the team, reviewing live systems, offering practical advice, and discussing ongoing operations, we can continue to ensure that our coding services align with their needs and support their ongoing efforts for improvement.

CEC healthcare is committed to providing more than just clinical coding services — we are dedicated to building lasting partnerships that help our clients thrive. By investing time in understanding their unique needs, offering expert advice, and fostering open communication, we can help ensure the highest quality results.

We look forward to continuing our work with Manx Care and are excited to see the continued success of our partnership.
